The paper deals with a problem of finding parameters of material damping characterized by its logarithmic decrement out of the sampled signal of damped vibrations. The decrement is expressed in the form of a cubic parabola in stress amplitudes. A method of the signal processing is described in the paper. The method yields the optimum values of coefficients of a polynomial approximating the logarithmic decrement.
