The vibration analysis of the car gear-box by the modal synthesis method with reduction number DOF is presented. The method is based on the gear-box decomposition into two subsystems - the interior rotating subsystem and the gear housing - joined by rolling-element bearing couplings. The condensed mathematical model of the gear-box is formulated by means of lower undamped vibration mode shapes of the mutually uncoupled subsystems and stiffness and damping matrices of the couplings. The method is applied to the modal analysis of the coupled gear-box and its steady vibration excited by gear kinematics transmission errors.
