In several newly built or modernised strip rolling mills in the Czech Republic, defects leading to products of low quality or product wasting have appeared. The article explains manifestations and causes of these defects. It rests on a few mathematical models that describe and indicate possible methods for the removal or the substantial elimination of imperfections.
