During the past decade, there has been a tremendous interest in the use of piezoelectric sensors and actuators for structural control applications. Some of the attributes which have made piezoelectric actuators particularly attractive for active control include large useful bandwidth, the efficient conversion of electrical to mechanical energy and the mechanical simplicity of the actuator. This paper describes the designing technique for active control of vibration using the optimal PID controller. It also compares PID and PPF controller applied in the simulated example of the vibration suppression of cantilever beam.
