The most of the usual mechanics of solids deals with artificial materials except of geotechnics and some other special ranges. The structures of artificial materials and engines are designed almost always into elastic state and behave linearly under load. Not so geotechnical structures, these behave non-linearly almost in ever case. Despite this fact it is requested by geotechnical codes and standards the same approach like for artificial structure design. This incorrect concept has made hard fundamental problems, which have not been solved even during the last forty years. The paper shows the basic peculiarities and some examples of influence of the concept Limit State Design Theory in geotechnics.
