The first scale (meso-structural) serves to determine the effective properties of masonry and nonlinear loading paths (macroscopic stress vs. macroscopic strain). To that end, certain periodic cells (PUC) were created for both regular and quarry-stone mesostructures. The structure energies needed in the macro-scale analysis are determined as areas under the loading curves derived on meso-scale and multiplied by the width of the localization band. This paper is focused on the first level of modelling and non-linear homogenization is applied to a regular free-stone mesostructure.
