Buffer ring in the form of a short thin-walled tube is used to damp the impact of the primary circuit cover on the secondary cover of the collector of nuclear power plant steam generator in the case of postulated rupture cover bolts. Dynamic tests have been performed in order to investigate both the energy absorption capability and the dynamic buckling behaviour of typical buffer rings. The presented paper describes the computer simulation of the experiment using a sophisticated computation model and LS-DYNA program. It has been shown, that computer simulation can reduce considerably the extent of expensive experiments.
