A new experimental set-up and measuring methods for the investigation of a channel flow with a backward-facing step on one wall are described. The rectangular cross section (0.275 m x 0.10 m) of the channel downstream from the step is unchanging. The height of the incoming channel H is adjustable so as to vary the ratio of step height h over H; h/H = 1:10, 1:4, 1.02:1. The static pressure distribution measurements downstream the step-foot showed that the distances of these distributions extremes (minimum, zero crossing, maximum) from the step foot are independent on the ratios h/H if scaled by the step height h. A correlation between the mentioned extremes and limits of the separation zone and of the corner vortex follows from the preliminary analysis.
