The hypothesis was stated, that the relaxation oscillation emerge in the surface layers of wheel and rail, by the accelerating and braking period of the rail vehicles. The issue is to analyze the nonlinear dynamic systems, which are used to simulate these systems. This study focuses on the periodic and chaotic behaviour of the unforced and forced Van der Pol oscilator. The variation of control parametr is also considered. Moreover the behaviour of the same real system with Rayleigh, exponencial and constant with adhesion contact friction model is studied. This is preparatory study for potencial experimental validation of the occurence of relaxation oscilation.
