The paper is based on the variant dynamic response analysis of a masonry wall structure loaded by the shock pressure waves produced by the explosion of a methane-air mixture on the rear side of the masonry partition. The theoretical analysis is compared with the results of experimental verification. The manner of dynamic response is discussed, both the origin of the first cracks in the structure and the collapse of the whole structure in dependence on the load overpressure time function, tensile stresses in the joints and on the deflections of the structure. Finally, the paper derives the principles of the failure of the masonry structure also for the relatively long duration of the explosion.
