The speech audiometry answers the question how a person is able to perceive, differentiate and understand living speech. The first construction attempts of speech audiometry were done about 200 years ago. Nowadays the commonly used tests of Czech speech audiometry were constructed over a half of a century ago. The only change over the years was the recording medium – a gramophone record, an audio tape, an audio cassette and CD. The Czech language is changing. The present paper shows a philosophy of new speech audiometry test construction. The main criteria for choosing words were: 1) a commonly used wordage, 2) a corresponding representation of word classes to the Czech language, 3) a similar number of syllables for every group of words, 4) a proportion of voiced and unvoiced consonants, 5) a similar composition of speech sounds for every group of words according to low, middle and high frequency components (the timbre of speech sound). The results were compared with the Czech speech norms. Another task is to provide that every group of words has the same loudness - sound intensity. The energy level of a word was computed and compared with a sound pressure level in an audiological cabin.
