Local surface temperature monitoring on steamboiler and thermal fatigue assessment
D. Vincour
pages 1405 - 1411, full text

Results from periodical inspections show the fatigue crack location in basic material of steam-boiler. Cracks were located on internal body surface on edge of the nozzle hole. Calculated results recognize the stress concentration in places with cracks. The possible degradation mechanisms and cause of fatigue defect rise was appointed the thermal fatigue subjected by temperature cycling during the boiler operation. But the temperature cycling was not recognized yet. For this reason it was arranged the short-time temperature measuring on the external nozzle surface near the weld and on the external surface of the boiler body.
