This paper presents a simulation of 3D curved crack propagation in a steam turbine blade lock. These fatigue cracks are often initiated near a blade root contact zone. Two FEM analyses of the blade root were carried out based on stress intensity factor computation along cracks tips. The first was focused on the evaluation of probably initiation crack position according to the contact zone and its geometrical configuration. The second deals with simulation of crack propagation from the most probable initial configuration under cyclic loading caused by starting and shuting down of turbine.
